cheryl-r1Cheryl Watterson, Radio Host, will interview Melissa Soalt aka Dr. Ruthless on the internet radio show Lets Talk Home Security - Friday, September 11, 2009 at 10:00 a.m.EDT/7:00 a.m. PDT.   Be sure to pencil in the date, time, and call-in number (646) 727-3396.  You can also listen online @ www.blogtalkradio.com/letstalkhomesecurity.

I am excited to have Melissa aka Dr. Ruthless on the show to discuss how important it is to make women and men’s self-defense and personal safety awareness a high priority.  We can’t reiterate enough the importance as we constantly see in the daily news personal assaults, attacks, abductions, and kidnappings against women.

Let’s face it women are the ones mostly under attack by these predators!!  That doesn’t mean men aren’t attacked but they aren’t the ones making the nightly news.  After seeing Melissa’s awesome videos I just know she’s going to have some great self-defense tips and valuable information for everyone who listens in.

Melissa Soalt aka Dr. Ruthless is an award winning women’s self-defense expert specializing in practical and full-force, scenario-based training methods.  She is a Black Belt Hall of Fame Recipient and Woman of the Year, voted “Best Women’s Self Defense” 2008.  Since 1986 Melissa has taught thousands of women how to protect themselves from danger and when all else fails, fight back to escape and survive.

A former psychotherapist who has successfully staved off physical attacks, Melissa has been featured on NBC Nightly News and in SELF, Woman’s Day, The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek Japan and India’s national newspaper, THE HINDU.  She has published numerous articles and is working on a book.

In her acclaimed Fierce and Female DVD, Melissa teaches women how to remain focused and unleash a ferocious (and uncomplicated) counterattack to repel sexual and physical attacks.

Melissa is based in New England, but with a mobile operation, she conducts on-site seminars for groups, companies, organizations and schools.  For more information and to preview her methods, visit her website at:  www.dr-ruthless.com.

With that type of self-defense background you know the show is going to be packed full of outstanding information.

Be sure to join the conversation with Melissa Soalt aka Dr. Ruthless on Lets Talk Home Security, Friday, 9-11-09 at 10:00 a.m. EDT/7:00 a.m. PDT at (646) 727-3396 or online at www.blogtalkradio.com/letstalkhomesecurity.com.

Bank Executive/EE Home Security

September 1, 2009 by admin

On Friday, 08-28-09, Lets Talk Home Security host Cheryl Watterson talked about home protection strategies for bank executives, middle management, bank managers, executive managers, and their employees.

With bank robberies on the rise - there has also been a tremendous  increase in the number of home invasion robberies.  The two crimes sort of go together - criminals — robberies — money.

Criminals are getting smarter and some are very professional.  In fact over the past 8-10 years there have been many incidents of home invasion robberies of bank executives where family members were kidnapped and/or held hostage while the bank employee was driven to the bank and  forced to withdraw money.

What executive holds the keys to the bank branch?  Is it the branch or assistant manager?  Very likely a professional criminal could go to the home of one of the local managers and perform the exact crime and catch the bank employee totally off-guard.  People don’t think that a home invasion robbery crime is going to happen to them - it’s always someone else who is the victim! Most banks are set up with security systems that record opening and closing schedules that would alert the alarm monitoring center.

The safety and security of bank employees should be a high priority.  Especially with our economy in such a slump - desperate people do desperate things!

Employee training that includes personal safety awareness while at work, in the bank, and outside of the bank should be ongoing.  Employees should also have the opportunity to learn the best home security strategies to keep both their home and family safe while at work or at home.

By being proactive and knowing how to protect your home and keep your family safe you can avoid becoming a victim of a home burglary or home invasion robbery crime.  The consequences can be very devastating!

Larger banks with multiple branches throughout a city or state should offer  their employees and even their customers a training program that includes home security protection strategies and personal safety awareness.  That would be a company that offers value-added benefits to employees and customer.

Take care and protect your home and family.

Personal Safety & Home Security

On Friday, 8-21-09, Lets Talk Home Security host Cheryl Watterson interviewed Jack Krohn, owner of www.AAA-SafetyFirst.com which is an online personal protection store and Detective Renee Witt from the Seattle Police Department.

Jack gave the listeners all kinds of great information about how women can keep themselves safe from physical attacks and assaults by knowing self-defense techniques, safety awareness, and carrying some type of personal protection product.

We discussed Personal Alarms which are basically noise makers and usually range in the 120-130 db range.  Most personal alarms have lights included making them very helpful for dark parking lots and stairwells.  When women leave the shopping mall at night going to their car, having a personal alarm and/or pepper spray would give them some options to defend themselves with.

Personal alarms are a non-lethal device, usually cost under $20, and are highly recommended for young women in high school, going off to college, those who regularly jog or walk, and really for any woman who is out and about by themselves.  Having a device that makes a tremendous amount of noise will alert the attention of anyone nearby.  Noise is definitely something the attacker doesn’t want!!

c2-taser-pinkWe also talked about Stun Gun Batons, Pepper Sprays, and TASERS.  These are non-lethal personal protection devices meant to throw off an attacker enough so a victim can get away to safety and call the police.

You can check out Jack’s online personal protection store at www.aaa-safetyfirst.com.  It’s better to spend a little money now to protect yourself versus become a victim of a violent attack and perhaps not live to tell about it.

Jack is also offering his FREE ebook on women’s self-defense.  Go to the home page of www.aaa-safetyfirst.com and sign up for his 35-page ebook and get the latest details on how to keep yourself safe.

My second guest was Detective Renee Witt from the Seattle Police Department.  We talked about home burglary/home invasion robbery crimes in the Seattle area and some of the things that might be causing the increase in these crimes.

I also asked what home security tips she would recommend.  She said homeowners should have a Home Security Action Plan (which is what I highly recommend) and that having a Neighborhood Watch Group has proven to be very effective in fighting neighborhood crime.

She did say that due to the warmer weather a lot of people have been leaving their windows open and some even leaving their doors unlocked which has made it very easy for the home intruders.  Locking doors and windows should be a habit in every home.  Always check the locks for both windows and doors before leaving the home or going to bed.

She also agreed with me that the #1 step on the Home Security Action pic-of-security-keypad1 Plan should be having a home security system.  If you want to know when an intruder is coming into your home at 3:00 a.m. or you need emergency help, install a security system that is monitored 24/7 and will alert the local police authorities. (Check the FREE home security offer below).

Thanks to both my guests today for sharing some great home security and personal safety/protection information.

People can always listen to today’s show on the home page radio widget - which is on the right side of the page.

Take care and keep your home and safe & well-protected.

Ron Daniels, The Ultimate Lock

July 10, 2009 by admin

On Friday, 7-10-09  I interviewed Ron Daniels, President of  The Ultimate Lock - deadbolt locking system - about protecting your perimeter doors against criminals who are savvy and using a criminal technique called “Lock bumping, Bump locking, or Key bumping” to gain access and entry into homes.

Cheryl Watterson, LTHS Radio Host Interviewed Ron Daniels, President, The Ultimate Lock:

With everything that affects our lives on a daily basis all we need is one more thing to be concerned with - yet it could prove to be devastating and potentially deadly if you don’t understand what it is and how you can prevent it from happening to your home.

The “Lock bumping, Key bumping or Bump Locking” technique is an extremely slick way that home burglars and home invasion intruders are using to break-in to homes.  It’s quick, easy, and leaves virtually every home vulnerable to thieves who have the right key.  Plus there is basically no sign or evidence of forced intrusion.

The daily crime news alone should motivate homeowners to become more  proactive and ensure they have the best possible deadbolt protection on all perimeter doors (and interior Safe Room door) .  We need to ensure our deadbolt locks are up-to-date and strong enough to withstand a powerful kick from a 250 lb intruder.

Ron talked about The Ultimate Lock  system and how it is designed to prevent a forced intrusion and what mechanisms it has in place to provide the ultimate protection for your doors.  The patented ”lock-out” feature on The Ultimate Lock is one you won’t find on other deadbolts.

Be proactive and make sure you have high security deadbolts protecting your home and family.  Checkout the Ultimate Lock video to see just how effective this deadbolt locking system can be for your perimeter doors.  Don’t skimp on your families’ security, safety and protection.

When you order your Ultimate Lock system, mention you heard about it on Lets Talk Home Security Radio and receive an additional discount.

Protect your family and home now!
